Custom Mouse Pad Size Guide: Which Size Should You Actually Buy?

Picking the wrong size is the #1 reason people regret buying a custom mouse pad. Too small and you'll outgrow it in a month. Too big and it hangs off the desk like an apron. Here's how to get it right the first time.

    Start by measuring your desk

Before you look at anything else, grab a tape measure. You need two numbers:

    1. Usable width — total desk width minus any monitor stand footprint
    2. Usable depth — from the front edge to the base of your monitor

Write them down. You'll match these against the chart below.

    The size cheat sheet

    Desk 100cm+ wide → 900×400mm (XL)

The most popular size for a reason. Fits a tenkeyless keyboard with plenty of mouse room on the side. Looks proportional on most desks without dominating the room.

    Desk 140cm+ wide → 1200×600mm (XXL)

Full coverage. Looks dramatic. Best for full-size keyboards (with numpad) and low-DPI gamers who swing their whole arm.

    Desk under 90cm → 450×400mm (Mouse-only)

Don't force a giant pad onto a tiny desk — it'll hang off the edge and constantly snag on your chair. A focused mouse pad is the right call here.

    DPI changes everything

The other half of the equation is how you actually use the mouse:

    • Low DPI (400–800) — You swing your arm across the pad. Go XXL.
    • Medium DPI (800–1600) — Comfortable on XL.
    • High DPI (1600+) — Even mouse-only works fine.

If you don't know your DPI, check your mouse software. Most gaming mice ship between 800–1600 by default.

    Thickness is non-negotiable

All our sizes ship at 4mm — thick enough to be comfortable under your wrists, thin enough to slide under a keyboard wrist rest without stacking awkwardly.

Avoid anything under 4mm. The thinness savings aren't worth the curling, telegraphing every desk imperfection, and the cheap-feeling palm contact.

    Still on the fence?

Design your custom mouse pad and preview the artwork at every size before you buy. Most people who hesitate between XL and XXL go XXL — almost nobody regrets it.
